WHY ARE WE TALKING ABOUT GEN Z AGAIN?

Every generation is special, but Gen Z is built differently.

We’re built differently because of our unique life experiences.

Right now, Gen Zers are between 12 and 27 years old.

  • We’re the most racially diverse generation to date.
  • We’re on track to become the best-educated generation ever (less likely to drop out of high school; more likely to attend college).
  • We tend to be more liberal than older generations.
  • We’ve grown up in a digital world; for us, the internet has always existed.

In The Gen Z Playbook Mars UnitedSM Commerce published in August, we presented a general overview of who Gen Z is and how we shop before offering some guidelines for effective brand engagement. In this report, we take a deeper dive into our attitudes and behaviors related to finances, health and wellness, food and beverages, and shopping.

To gain even more “in their own words” insights, the Gen Z members of Mars United’s Strategic Planning team conducted extensive focus group discussions with 39 other Gen Z co-workers. The goal was to better understand our generation and identify best practices for brands to follow.

Through these focus groups, we uncovered the balancing act that these young consumers goes through in their daily lives. Comments from the focus groups are interspersed throughout this report to help illustrate “A Day in the Life of Gen Z.”
